Cosmetic Surgery

Liposuction is a form of cosmetic surgery that is used for the reshaping or removing excess fat. Liposuction is typically achieved, as its name suggests, though sucking excess fat away using a specialised piece of equipment called a cannual which is inserted into the area of the body which fat is to be removed from through an incision made by a cosmetic surgeon.

As with many types of cosmetic surgery liposuction has been subject to some controversy particularly in American, where liposuction is one of the most popular forms of cosmetic surgery, is frequently performed by individuals with out the proper licenses and surgical background, often with very severe consequences for the patient. Poorly performed liposuction can have numerous implications for the patient including infections, severe bruising and potentially harmful deposits of fluid left in the patient’s body. In some very extreme cases liposuction patients have been left with severe infections causing necrosis of the flesh, which in many cases can be fatal.

A further controversy arising from liposuction, aside from the various risks and complications involved, is that some people may consider it a quick fix to weight loss and will opt for liposuction before even trying proper diet and exercise. Removing large quantities of fat with liposuction can be extremely dangerous and there are limits on how much should be removed, although many unscrupulous surgeons will imply to their patients that liposuction is a miracle form of weight loss.
